The Radio Show

Figure 2.1 - My natural face for radio.

I currently host a 4-hour radio show every Thursday from 10am-2pm PST (1pm-5pm EST) on my school's radio station, 90.5 FM KSJS in San Jose. As you can tell, in reference to figure 2.1, I have a wonderful face for radio ;)

Every week I play the best electronic dance music that is out there!! From Swedish House Mafia to Laidback Luke to Porter Robinson to Steve Aoki to Mord Fustang to Knife Party to Lazy Rich to Dada Life to Flux Pavilion... Yeah, I totally have you all covered :) I pride myself with my eclectic taste in music, but electronic has definitely hit the sweet spot (AND I like to party), so it makes sense for me to broadcast it live for the avid listeners like me out there. I am obsessed with music as much as I am obsessed with talking about complete NONSENSE during my stopsets... Haha trust me, my show is not only raging, but it can get entertaining as well!

Getting into radio has completely changed my world. KSJS in particular has provided me with the knowledge and understanding of how to run a business - from productions, to promotions, to FCC regulations - as well as how to shine my personality through the speakers with just a microphone. Although I grew up as a performer on stage, I adapted to using the other 50% of resources for entertainment - the audio side as opposed to just the visual.

Anyway, radio has become a medium that is slowly being pushed aside, but in all seriousness, what would we do without it in our lives?! As soon as I bought my first iPod years ago, I raved about how awful the radio was because of how the DJs and conglomerates running the show "kill all the good songs." Yeah, that may be true, but it's the radio station that publically brodcasts singles that constitues a "hit." And it's what the public wants, so that's what the public gets. KSJS is known for using local and raw underground tracks (hence the slogan, "Ground Zero Radio") - which is why on my show, I play for you the EDM that you will NEVER hear on your "Wild 94.9" or "Hot 99.5".

Here's a background on KSJS - Yes, my cohost and I are broadcasted live through the public airwaves for the entire Bay Area. The location of KSJS's transmitter is in Coyote Peak in San Jose. It's legit. KSJS is a non-profit organization that is completely student-run and operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
